What does it take to be a successful entrepreneur

October 28, 2010

CMA BC (Certified Management Accountants) asked me to draw on my experience founding, running and selling two businesses and write a piece for their magazine on what makes a successful entrepreneur.  I ended up writing on what I think good entrepreneurs need to focus on.

I include an excerpt from the article below and a link to the online version of the article.  Keep in mind, this is just my opinion on what matters.

Lesson #1: cash flow is the only financial measure that matters.

Lesson #2: customer cash is king.

Lesson #3: receivables must be managed.

Lesson #4: surround yourself with people who are better than you.

Lesson #5: pride is a dangerous thing.

Lesson #6: passion is paramount.
